ENGINEER 3

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position. This is a full-time, 1st shift role based at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Mississippi. Travel is required 25%-50% of the time, including potential assignments in a different state for up to three months at a time.

About the Role

This classification is engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical engineering disciplines. The role involves designing equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, design, and test components, equipment, and systems.
• Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity.
• Function in a project leadership role, guiding the successful completion of major programs.
• Serve as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel.
• Provide technical liaison between the Planning Yard, Naval Supervising Activity (NSA), and Program Management Representative (PMR).
• Interpret design products and assist in resolving technical problems.
• Support the local NSA and PMR during availability work periods with modernization and repair assistance.
• Assist in response to Condition Found Reports.
• Represent the Planning Yard at daily and weekly production reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university and 5 years of experience, or
• Master of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university and 3 years of experience, or
• PhD in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university and 1 year of experience.
• Extensive technical expertise with full knowledge of engineering disciplines.
• Ability to communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings.
• Experience with ship modernization, availability processes, and procedures.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Foundations and O&F designs.
• Knowledge of HVAC and pipe designs.
• Working knowledge of planning yard processes.
• Engineering experience and knowledge of systems for CG47, LCS, LPD17, LHA, and LHD ship classes.
• Prior experience supporting waterfront production efforts.
