Engineer 1, 2, Sr - Generation

About the Role

This position provides technical work and directs others in the planning, designing, procurement, and construction of additions, changes, or maintenance to Walter Scott Energy Center. The engineer will also assist engineering staff on higher-level projects and monitor and report unit heat rates at the coal-fired power plant.

Responsibilities include performing testing on power plant equipment such as boilers, turbines, condensers, pumps, heat exchangers, and coal mills. The role involves making recommendations for equipment repairs and modifications to improve unit performance, availability, and reduce emissions. Additional duties include completing cost estimates, savings analysis from maintenance activities, annual capacity testing, coal pile inventories, and maintaining online performance monitoring software. The engineer will also review and analyze data related to all aspects of power plant performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering services for the planning, design, and construction of project additions or maintenance to Walter Scott Energy Center's generation system (40%).
• Provide technical project management for all phases of a project, including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking, and project cost projections (25%).
• Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports (15%).
• Provide engineering assistance to other departments (15%).
• Attend training in designated areas (5%).
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned (0-5%).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution (mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering preferred).
• For the Engineer 2 position: one to three years of engineering experience.
• For the Senior Engineer position: five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer and must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). If no PE license, eight or more years as a practicing engineer is required.
• High level of technical knowledge, judgment, and capability in the engineering discipline.
• Effective communication skills with technical and managerial personnel within and external to the company.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
