About the role

The Engine Balancing Technician (APU) is responsible for analytical inspection, repair, assembly, balancing, and documentation of rotating parts, components, and tools for Auxiliary Power Units (APUs)—turbine engines that provide electrical and pneumatic power to aircraft when main engines are not running.

Available shifts:

  • 2 positions – 1st Shift (7:30 AM – 3:30 PM)
  • 1 position – 2nd Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical inspection, develop repair schemes, assemble, and balance rotating parts, components, and tools
  • Disassemble and clean parts using micrometers, depth mics, and technical data; interpret NDT results
  • Conduct inspections using FARO precision measuring equipment and interpret results
  • Use master curvic couplings and dial indicators to measure runouts
  • Set up and balance multiple parts and assemblies using a Balancestar balance machine (hard bearing and "floating" methods, static and two-plane balance)
  • Install axial flow turbine blades on turbine disks using installation fixtures
  • Perform stacking and stretch build procedures for 331 rotating components
  • Maintain and service specialized equipment
  • Read and comply with work instructions, commercial, FAA, EASA, Repair Station, and ISO documentation
  • Write accurate technical reports and complete work orders, BOMs, and ERP data inputs
  • Work independently and collaboratively in teams
  • Practice safe and efficient use of tools; report safety, quality, or ethical concerns to supervisors
  • Mentor and train other personnel
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (minimum)
  • Technical school courses in mechanic or machinist classes (preferred)
  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant license (not required)
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and metal work
  • Minimum 1 year of balance experience (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Quantum (preferred)
  • Ability to read and adhere to verbal and written instructions
  • Strong decision-making skills under pressure and deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication with personnel and management
  • Organizational skills
