Enforcement and Removal Assistant (OA)

These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), in multiple locations specified in this announcement. The salary range will be adjusted to include locality payment for the selected duty location.

Duties

  • Researching detainee history using multiple sources to establish identity/citizenship and manage detained and non-detained dockets.
  • Providing administrative support to managers, supervisors, or staff members by assisting in the day-to-day management of the office's activities.
  • Summarizing and tabulating detainee information from various reports and utilizing a variety of databases and automated systems.
  • Generating and verifying detainee reports, encounters, charging documents, studies, data quality, and creating and revising spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and presentations.
  • Exercising quality control over bond paperwork.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation, which may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-05

Specialized Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service that included:

  • Performing recordkeeping and reporting;
  • Compiling, maintaining, and updating automated records; and
  • Responding to requests for procedural information.

OR Education Substitution: You must have successfully completed four years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must be obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: You must have an appropriate combination of successfully completed post-high-school education and experience to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-05 grade level.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-06

Specialized Experience: You must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 level in the Federal service performing each of the following duties:

  • Processing individuals arrested or detained by law enforcement officials (e.g., booking and property inventory procedures);
  • Performing file searches and assembling documentation; and
  • Responding to routine requests and issues regarding legal or law enforcement policies, practices, and procedures.

Typing Requirement

In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements, you must show possession of the ability to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample, with three or fewer errors. You may self-certify your proficiency in the Occupational Questionnaire.
