Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex energy and infrastructure transactions, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), EPC agreements, project development agreements, and related commercial contracts
- Advises on the acquisition, development, financing, and operation of conventional and renewable generation assets, including solar, wind, battery storage, and natural gas projects
- Supports energy procurement transactions, competitive RFP processes, and large-scale strategic sourcing initiatives
- Counsels business teams on project development, project finance, and build-to-own generation projects
- Negotiates natural gas supply, transportation, storage, and related infrastructure agreements
- Advise on transactions involving generation asset acquisitions, tolling arrangements, commodity purchases, renewable energy credits, emissions credits, and other strategic energy initiatives
- Provides legal guidance regarding MISO market rules, regulatory requirements, and related energy market matters
- Presents to business, engineering, finance, and project development teams throughout the transaction lifecycle
- Supports regulatory approvals and utility commission processes as needed for strategic development projects
Qualifications
- 8+ years of legal experience, with substantial experience in the electric utility, power generation, renewable energy, or energy infrastructure sectors
- Strong experience with MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) rules, market structures, and regulatory requirements
- Experience negotiating PPAs, EPC agreements, energy procurement agreements, and project development transactions
- Familiarity with project finance and generation asset acquisitions
- Experience supporting competitive RFP processes and large-scale procurement initiatives
- In-house utility, independent power producer (IPP), renewable developer, or energy infrastructure experience is strongly preferred
- Experience supporting data center power supply or energy infrastructure projects is a plus
