About the role
The Energy Systems Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of College Energy Management & Building Automation Systems (EMS/BAS) to lower energy consumption and utility costs while maintaining occupant comfort.
Responsibilities
- Manage and operate the Energy Management Systems, troubleshoot EMS operating issues, including connectivity with Network Services, and other vendor(s) systems.
- Perform in the field investigations to determine mechanical systems are operating properly with building automation system sensors and actuators. Make repairs with the assistance of facilities trade staff.
- Oversee building automation system vendors in collaboration with Director of Facilities.
- Monitor energy consumption to determine systems scheduling for optimal efficiency and cost savings.
- Provide 24/7 emergency response for EMS/BAS systems when required.
- Reviews construction projects with a specific focus on sound engineering design and incorporation of energy conservation elements. Reviews, comments, and presents recommendations to the project management team.
- Monitor the campuses' solar arrays to ensure proper energy production and revenue are achieved.
- Establish and manage maintenance contracts as well as utility & SREC records.
- Work closely with others overseeing maintenance operations regarding energy conservation and efficient system operations.
- Manage NSCC demand response operations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and Assistant Directors of Facilities in the creation, updating and maintaining of a robust preventive maintenance program.
- Schedule and program all non-automated events, holidays or special requests in the EMS/BAS.
- Work closely with the Asst. Directors of Facilities on hot/cold calls from building occupants.
- Investigate the root cause of the problem to determine a permanent solution.
- Assist in establishing departmental standards regarding controls and/or HVAC systems.
- Reviews construction projects with a specific focus on sound engineering design and incorporation of energy conservation elements.
- Reviews, comments, and presents recommendations to the project management team.
- Review construction documents for college construction projects as well as this to with commissioning of energy systems.
- Include other duties in support of facilities operations as necessary, including but not limited to, procurement & bidding, project management, and contractor / vendor oversight.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field with 1- 3 years' experience or Associate's Degree in engineering sciences or related field with 4+ years' experience.
- Extensive Knowledge of Energy Management Systems and Building Automation Systems; familiarity with Niagara 4, TacVista, and Allerton BAS.
- Knowledgeable in alternative energy practices, energy conservation, solar array systems, and demand response utility programs.
- Familiarity with commercial mechanical systems such as but not limited to, pillars, air handlers, boilers, geothermal systems, heat pump, mechanical actuators, pneumatics, etc.
- Experience in Commissioning / Retro-commissioning of mechanical systems and familiarity with standard industry guidelines such as ASHRAE energy audits.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, make and implement effective decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee a variety of programs and assignments simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to interact with various agencies/individuals (i.e. employees, other departments, outside agencies and vendors) to coordinate activities and resolve problems in a positive and professional manner.
- Ability to interpret blue prints and electrical/mechanical specifications.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in mechanical, electrical engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of experience using Niagara 4, TacVista, or Allerton BAS operating platform.
- BAS programming experience.

Pay
SALARY: Salary range $87,000.00 - $103,000.00. The offered salary will be based on the candidate's experience, education, and current market conditions. Candidates who exceed the minimum qualifications and meet preferred qualifications may be eligible for a salary above the stated range.
Schedule
Full time position, 37.5 hours/week.
