About the role
The Energy Modeling Project Manager will be involved in high-profile sustainability projects, working with major real estate developers, award-winning design firms, and top-tier construction companies. The role involves detailed review of project work and integration into a team of talented professionals.
Responsibilities
- Examine field conditions and design documents to represent relevant details in the energy model
- Perform advanced energy modeling analysis for high-rise commercial and residential buildings using DOE 2.2 or Energy Plus in accordance with ASHRAE Standards
- Model building HVAC systems including chilled water, hot water, DX, rooftop units, as well as constant air and variable air volume systems
- Assemble documentation on modeling methods, assumptions, and results
- Execute energy auditing, benchmarking, data gathering, and measurement & verification
- Perform energy savings and lifecycle cost analyses of energy-saving measures related to building envelope, lighting, HVAC, plug loads, and building energy management systems
- Develop and write reports detailing building components and energy efficiency measures
- Provide feedback to project teams on cost-effective ways to improve building energy performance and sustainability
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering, Physics, or Architecture
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) accreditation (desirable)
- Minimum of three years experience in energy analysis for US-based projects (university course experience does not meet the requirement)
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the New York State and NY City Energy Code
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the Passive House International (PHI) and/or Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) certification systems and relevant tools (PHPP, WUFI Passive, etc.) is desirable
- Superior verbal communication and writing skills
- Proven project management skills
- Proven ability to engage well with external stakeholders (e.g., clients and design partners)
- Thorough knowledge of energy efficiency in large and complex buildings
- Thorough knowledge of energy modeling software, DOE 2.2 or Energy Plus (primary knowledge of IES may be acceptable, if complemented by knowledge of DOE 2.2)
- Proficient in Microsoft software, particularly Excel
- Basic AutoCAD and Revit skills
- Computer programming knowledge is a plus (SOCOTEC often utilizes and develops custom analysis tools)
