Energy Marshal

About the role

This position provides comprehensive oversight of energy management activities on construction projects, including electrical, mechanical, chemical, and thermal aspects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, review, and approve complex energy management work permits and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure comprehensive review.
• Serve as a decision-maker for energization implementation on the project.
• Lead and/or participate in root cause analysis for incidents and engage with subcontractors and leadership on dispute resolution.
• Oversee subcontractor development and verify job site processes and approvals on work permits.
• Establish a program to educate and validate the project team's understanding and use of the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program.
• Oversee and ensure proper adherence to LOTO activities on every project.
• Verify controlled access processes for energized rooms and systems.
• Verify qualifications and competence of staff managing high-risk energy activities.
• Develop and conduct electrical safety training for equipment technicians and perform regular assessments.
• Verify establishment and tracking of accurate single line diagrams on the project.
• Oversee and verify established processes and procedures for start-up, switching, or commissioning activities.
• Create a supportive environment to develop high-performing teams and provide professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years of applicable electrical trades experience in control of energy.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited program is a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, and Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (70E).
• Advanced knowledge of MEP systems.
• Ability to interpret complex one-line drawings and diagrams for MEP systems.
• Ability to interpret contract documents, owner project requirements, and system schematics.
• Excellent business acumen and critical thinking skills.
• Advanced interpersonal communication, professional presentation, and persuasion skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands of this job require the ability to climb stairs, ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction. The employee must be able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. The employee must also be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work environment is typically at construction work sites, where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
