Energy Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an Energy Engineer who combines technical expertise with a passion for energy efficiency and building performance. In this role, you will develop and evaluate energy conservation measures in multifamily and commercial buildings by using and expanding your understanding of building HVAC, domestic hot water, process loads, lighting, and envelope systems. After conducting thorough assessments of building energy requirements and expenditures, you will present and work with lead engineers to implement comprehensive energy reduction plans.

Responsibilities

• Perform energy efficiency analyses for ASHRAE Level I, II, and III audits
• Conduct Local Law 87 energy audits and retro-commissioning activities
• Conduct energy audits of complex building systems and evaluate energy usage to identify energy conservation measures (ECMs)
• Perform feasibility studies for complex projects and conduct energy savings and cost-benefit analyses
• Create building-wide energy reduction plans and analyze building and facility systems using analytical tools
• Leverage rebate, financial, and loan initiatives to support project implementation through available funding programs
• Test and retro-commission building systems to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local Law 87 requirements
• Generate ideas for new ECMs based on audit experience and develop analytical tools to improve efficiency
• Analyze utility bills to identify consumption patterns and opportunities for energy reduction
• Present energy reduction plans to clients and support meetings with management companies, building owners, and building staff
• Assist lead engineers on energy projects, applying technical knowledge to ensure compliance and proper implementation of capital improvements
• Oversee and train interns in energy efficiency analysis and guide junior team members in conducting analyses and site visits
• Support maintenance and improvement of analytical tool templates and enhance energy audit procedures for the team
• Collaborate with management and senior staff to develop a unique area of specialty within the energy field
• Perform other responsibilities as required and support team and departmental initiatives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the energy or building performance sector
• Strong understanding of energy efficiency concepts, HVAC systems, and renewable energy technologies
• Experience with energy modeling and analytical techniques
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills
• Physical ability to perform site work including standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, working in various environmental conditions, and lifting up to 25 pounds

Primarily based in New York City with regular site visits throughout the five boroughs.
