About the Role

This position has a home-based office in Southern / Central Illinois. It requires site work and the use of a personal vehicle with up to 75% travel. You will join a team dedicated to helping institutional stakeholders manage energy use by providing reports containing implementable projects that reduce energy use in various buildings.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Manage projects in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Conduct energy assessments (ASHRAE level I and II), including identification of energy conservation measures.
  • Engage with customers and service providers at their locations as part of the assessment process.
  • Provide overall management, direction, and accountability on assigned projects to ensure progress and on-time, high-quality deliverables.
  • Calculate energy savings for various system or equipment changes using existing calculation tools, original spreadsheets, and/or generally accepted methodologies.
  • Interpret supply-side energy use/cost data collected from customer sources or directly through our client or the local utilities.
  • Communicate assessment results with a diverse audience on their level in a way that facilitates understanding and buy-in.
  • Contribute to peers through technical discussions and work review.
  • Draft a final report to be delivered to the program stakeholders on time.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of energy efficiency experience.
  • Technical knowledge of:
    • Conducting energy assessments (ASHRAE level I and II)
    • Refrigeration and compressed air systems
    • Cooling/heating systems
    • Boilers and chillers
  • Experience working on-site with commercial and institutional customers.
  • Ability to serve as the on-site subject matter expert to program stakeholders as required.
  • Experience writing high-quality final reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and understanding of SharePoint features and reporting abilities.
  • General familiarity with, and passion for, energy and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with required management for completing multiple ASHRAE energy assessments simultaneously.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Understanding of appropriate codes and standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Project management and organizational skills, with the ability to adeptly juggle multiple projects, customers, deadlines, and demands.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to comfortably interact with internal and external customers and stakeholders and serve their needs.
  • Understanding of and compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Comfortable performing a variety of fieldwork and interacting with customers, staff, and vendors.
  • Strong knowledge of energy-efficient technologies and energy efficiency best practices.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated to achieve project results.
  • Ability to see issues from the customer's perspective.
  • Ability to teach or explain technical topics to audiences with different levels of technical understanding.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay range: $71,711–$92,000 per year.
  • Excellent full-time benefits package including DAY 1 benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, STD, LTD).
