NATURE OF WORK
This position involves high-level statistical and analytical work in collecting and processing data on utility energy operations and equipment. The Energy Analyst will develop subject-matter expertise in utility operations and performance, forecasting, analytics, and risk management. They will be responsible for tracking, monitoring and reporting on utility system performance and forecasts.
Essential Functions
- Maintains the utility SCADA Information System and ensures it operates within established guidelines.
- Suggests corrective actions when necessary.
- Analyzes and compiles data for reports and data sets regarding utility operations, such as electric generation, energy sales and purchases, system demand, system efficiencies, fuel consumption, output, energy costs, etc.
- Validates and updates RT parameters in SPP integrated market (IM).
- Reconciles submitted information with real-time performance metrics.
- Reports to regulatory entities including SPP, state, and federal agencies.
- Supports utility personnel and serves as liaison for the City of Fremont in SPP.
- Generates and compiles information for external audits and governmental agencies.
- Develops long-term forecasts for portfolio planning and procurement evaluations.
- Supports the development of the bi-annual budget through forecasting.
- Utilizes various computer software programs to prepare reports, graphs, and other material related to energy resources, finance models, usage trends, and customer statistics.
- Provides advanced-level analysis and recommendations for utility performance, root cause identification, and corrective actions.
- Identifies and utilizes value-added performance metrics for the utility.
Desirable Knowledge, Abilities And Skills
- Knowledge of power plant operations and standard practices.
- Experience with statistical analysis, building statistical models, and forecasting.
- Ability to explain analysis and conclusions.
- Ability to identify and utilize relevant datasets and methods.
- Advanced knowledge of mathematics, statistics, computer networks, relational databases, macros, etc.
- Ability to perform advanced mathematical and algebraic computations and identify operational deficiencies.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of utility operations, technology, market, resources, and regulations.
- Understanding of statistical analysis concepts and modeling techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Demonstrated technical and analytical skills in systems and processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database management.
- Ability to query data from SQL sources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with or ability to obtain knowledge of Utility operations, including technology, market, resources, and regulations.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Employee must possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Driver’s License when operating a vehicle.
- Must meet current applicable residency requirements.
