Endoscopy Technician

About the Role

The Endoscope Technician assists in providing nursing care and preparing endoscopy patients in the Ambulatory Care Unit and/or Surgical Department. This role functions as a member of the procedure team, supporting endoscopy procedures, maintaining equipment, and handling specimens while delivering care to patients across all age groups (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care under the direction of the surgeon and registered nurse (RN).
  • Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols to protect patients and team members.
  • Sets up and maintains a sterile field for endoscopic procedures.
  • Prepares the procedural suite, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and instruments are ready.
  • Performs gowning, gloving, and draping for endoscopic cases.
  • Anticipates and meets the needs of physicians during procedures.
  • Cleans procedural rooms and equipment according to established policies.
  • Cleans and prepares endoscopic supplies and instruments for transportation to the decontamination area.
  • Demonstrates competency in transporting or assisting with patient transportation per departmental procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and operational integrity.
  • Fosters cooperative relationships among healthcare teams through communication and problem-solving.
  • Ensures regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Adapts care methods to accommodate physical, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Utilizes assistive devices for lifting as mandated by safety protocols.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols, including respirator and fit testing for exposure risks.
  • Implements DRH Standards of Behavior and aligns with DRH core values.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, Electronic Health Record (EHR) tools, and information technology navigation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to urgent situations and changing procedures, processes, or tools.
  • Previous endoscopy experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) required within six (6) months of hire/transfer.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required; may obtain within 30 days of hire/transfer.
  • For positions requiring travel, a valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance are required.

Additional Information

This is a safety-sensitive position as defined by Oklahoma law. Applicants cannot test positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in pre-employment or any subsequent drug tests, even with a valid medical marijuana card.

Respirator and fit testing are required for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet-producing procedures, or caustic chemicals. Vaccinations are required per DRH policy, with medical and religious exemptions available upon request.
