Endocrinologist (Physician, Joslin Clinic: Adult Diabetes)
About the role
The Adult Diabetes Section of the Joslin Diabetes Center is seeking to recruit academic Clinical Endocrinologist(s) to join its large group of providers, participating in clinical care, research, and teaching.
Responsibilities
- Delivers person-centered, culturally-sensitive, comprehensive diabetes care to a diverse population across the Greater Boston area, as well as other national and international visitors.
- Participates in teaching of residents and endocrinology fellows, and contributes to quality improvement in diabetes care delivery.
- Works in a collegial fashion with diabetes educators, including nurses and dietitians.
- Manages general medical problems that may arise in diabetic patients.
- Evaluates and diagnoses types of diabetes.
- Chooses appropriate therapy.
- Recognizes complications of diabetes.
- Chooses treatment to avoid and minimize complications.
- Provides ongoing management assistance.
- Treats general medical problems.
- Evaluates general health status.
- Diagnoses diseases besides diabetes.
- Provides general medical therapy.
- Refers patients when additional expertise is needed.
- Interacts with the medical staff.
- Fulfills obligations specified by hospital and Center Bylaws.
- Attends and participates in conferences.
- Communicates about inpatient management.
- Participates in referral development activities.
- Presents lectures and promotes the program to physicians, hospital staff and potential referral sources.
- Participates in Joslin community activities (e.g. lectures, health fairs, radio programs).
Requirements
- M.D. degree from an accredited school
- Residency in internal medicine
- Fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism
- Certification and licensure in Massachusetts
- Board certified in internal medicine
- Board certified in endocrinology/metabolism (or eligible for Board certification with certification expected,)
- Or, if hired before board certification subspecialty availability has five years’ experience in the treatment of diabetes and its complications
Qualifications
- Active participation to teaching of residents and endocrinology fellows
- Interest in quality improvement in diabetes care delivery
Skills
- Subspecialty expertise in diabetes care, including Management of persons with diabetes in pregnancy; Weight management in type 2 diabetes; Care of young adults with type 1 diabetes, with a focus on diabetes technology; Care for the underserved and for diverse populations

Opportunity for academic appointment at Harvard Medical School as Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor will be commensurate with experience, training and achievements.
Base pay range: USD $150,000.00/Yr. - USD $350,000.00/Yr.
Actual compensation within this range may be determined based on several factors, including academic appointment, work experience, specialty training, geography of work location, anticipated productivity, FTE basis, and role expectations.
In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which may include bonuses for productivity and quality.
