EMT Paramedic

About the role

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic position at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care and services to diverse patient populations and their families. This includes performing EKGs, collecting lab specimens, and providing patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) under the direction of licensed nurses and/or providers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of patient care and services to diverse patient populations and their families.
• Perform EKGs and collect lab specimens under direction of the licensed nurse and/or provider.
• Provide patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) within unit-specific defined limits and job scope.
• Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met and record data established by policy and procedure.
• Report observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse and/or provider.
• Practice Patient and Family Centered Care in concert with Houston Methodist Experience standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Completion of EMT-A, EMT-Paramedic program or licensed Paramedic, and/or currently participating in an EMT to Paramedic program with classification of an EMT-Advanced.
• Required to have one of the following licenses/certifications: LP (Licensed Paramedic), EMT-A (Emergency Medical Technician-Advanced), EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic), BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NVCRISIS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention).

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regards to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
• Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
• Strong time management skills.
• Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, including organizing workflows and actively participating in problem-solving.
• Competent computer knowledge, including operating multiple computer systems like Epic and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Applies basic knowledge of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.
