Allied health professional providing basic-level patient care and transportation in emergency and non-emergency settings, both pre-hospital and within various hospital capacities. Responsible for responding to diverse patient needs across all ages and backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Performs basic life support following Pennsylvania/New York Department of Health statewide protocols and completes all required protocol update education.
- Handles all aspects of medical emergencies and trauma associated with BLS Emergency Medical Services.
- Administers medications and performs procedures under direct or standing orders from a Medical Command Physician, in accordance with PA/NY DOH guidelines.
- Operates emergency vehicles safely, including emergency driving.
- Supervises students during patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.
- Provides direction to ambulance personnel on scenes and acts as triage officer during disasters.
- Performs Quality Improvement duties as assigned.
- Stays informed about fire, safety, and disaster programs.
- Attends designated in-service programs.
- Performs other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- EMT Certification in the state of employment.
- In Pennsylvania locations: EVOC certification with EMSVO endorsement on EMT certification within 6 months of hire.
- High School diploma or equivalent (military experience considered in lieu of diploma).
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to read, write, and understand oral communication; verbal ability for presentations/teaching.
- Neat and legible record-keeping.
- Adherence to universal precautions and proper body mechanics.
- Ability to make timely decisions and handle traumatic situations, including patient deaths and unpleasant sights.
