You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and perform as a Medical Support Specialist to support plasma center operations.

About the role

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. You will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment and follow guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) support.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in the SOPs and follow applicable procedures for medical emergencies, including Center Physician’s standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned as one of the following: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN), or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.

Pay

U.S. hourly wage range: $22.50 - $32.34. The actual hourly wage offered may depend on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. Eligible for short-term incentives and participation in retirement benefits.

Schedule

Full time, predictable schedules with no overnight shifts or 24-hour calls.
