About the role
Pafford Medical Services is now accepting applications for an EMT in Southwest Arkansas, covering Counties: Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, and Pike.
Responsibilities
- Provides Basic Life Support including medical evaluation, treatment and stabilization of the critically ill and injured;
- Responds to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or bodily injury;
- Maintains control, manages and directs patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency;
- Trains and instructs lesser trained personnel;
- Performs other duties as required.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable and acceptable differential diagnosis;
- Performs physical examinations;
- Understands and anticipates potentially life-threatening presentations of non-cardiac emergencies and institutes appropriate emergency therapy;
- Deals with medical and emotional needs of any victim of acute illness or injury with the goal of reducing morbidity and mortality;
- Ensures quality patient care as established by the Company;
- Fills standardized reports of patient information and care;
- Communicates with physicians on duty at hospitals;
- Follows standard protocols when a physician is unavailable;
- Transports the ill and injured to institutions of medical care;
- Operates emergency vehicles safely;
- Cleans and maintains equipment;
- Completes patient statistics and medical information forms;
- Assists in technical rescues;
- Follows standard operating policies and procedures.

- Cleans and maintains vehicles;
- Cleans and maintains living quarters;
- Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain: EMT / EMT-B CPR for the Health Care Provider;
- Good knowledge of street systems, addresses, and physical layout of the area;
- Good ability to perform technical medical skills, understand and deal with medical and emotional needs, maintain a professional approach, learn new rescue and medical skills, and perform mechanical work;
- High degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency medicine;
- Attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses, and seminars.
General Information
- The supervisor assigns shifts and general scope of work;
- The incumbent performs work according to procedures, policies, and medical orders;
- The incumbent exercises judgment in applying guidelines;
- The work is spot-checked and evaluated based on patient, medical staff, and others' feedback;
- The incumbent must drive and operate emergency medical vehicles, move medical equipment, and assist in extracting injured persons from various situations.
Other Requirements
- The work requires the incumbent to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medical equipment, and extract injured persons from various situations;
- The situation can involve vehicular, industrial, and residential accidents, injuries, or illness and occur anywhere in the coverage area;
- The incumbent must be able to carry or help carry someone from the site of the injury to the mode of transportation and attend the injured party to the hospital;
- The incumbent must see, hear, and communicate with the injured party during a physical assessment;
- The incumbent must wear Company issued uniforms while on duty and maintain them;
- The incumbent must carry a Company issued pager/radio at all times to receive immediate notifications.
