About the Role

Responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting quality assurance data related to pre-hospital emergency care given by service area providers. Elicits cooperation of emergency care providers in enhancing emergency care, or in resolving problems identified in quality assurance analyses. Coordinates and implements remedial and continuing education programs for emergency medical services squads. Participates as the ED Liaison to the Community Relations Department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
  • Demonstrates competence in providing care and services to patients based on the patients age-specific and/or functional needs.
  • Complies with Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations to protect the privacy, security, and confidentiality of patient health information.
  • Ensures personal performance reflects the Mission, Vision, and Service Pride Standards.
  • Collects, analyzes, and trends quality assurance data related to pre-hospital emergency care; prepares care reports for monthly Performance Improvement Reviews, focusing on cardiac arrests, severe trauma, and protocol deviations.
  • Communicates findings to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers and provides guidance to enhance care delivery in compliance with national standards for quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Coordinates and implements remedial and continuing education programs for EMS providers in cooperation with education professionals, medical staff, and emergency care providers; conducts semi-annual EMS pre-hospital skill reviews and maintains skill records.
  • Participates in evaluating and revising treatment protocols to improve prehospital patient care and ensure compliance with applicable standards; oversees implementation through training and monitoring.
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with ED physicians to identify and resolve operational barriers to care delivery.
  • Collaborates with EMS coordinators and staff to evaluate and improve emergency services, educational programs, and address concerns or complaints.
  • Promotes positive community relations through timely responses to questions or concerns and effective resolution of issues.
  • Develops proposals for new ED services upon request, coordinating related research activities.
  • Serves as the ED Liaison to the Community Relations Department.
  • Facilitates monthly EMS education, providing continuing education hours to pre-hospital providers and maintaining records per Ohio Department of Public Safety guidelines.
  • Maintains an approved continuing education site number in accordance with Ohio Revised Code Section 4765.
  • Represents the department on the Environment of Care and Emergency Preparedness Management subcommittees.
  • Serves on the Local Emergency Planning Committee and Exercise Design subcommittee.
  • Participates in the North Central EMS Council Protocol subcommittee.
  • Oversees the ED Department orientation process for NA/TECH/Paramedics to ensure consistency; assists with the transition from pre-hospital Paramedic to Emergency Department Paramedic.
  • Collaborates with the ED Staff Educator to provide initial and ongoing competencies for NA/TECH/Paramedics.
  • Coordinates EMS Week activities, including educational opportunities, daily refreshments, and organizing the annual EMS Breakfast for city officials, physicians, nurses, and law enforcement.
  • Maintains regional ACLS facility status; facilitates monthly ACLS provider-level education for healthcare providers, including two instructor-level courses and one physician-only course annually.
  • Serves as the contact for the Central Ohio Trauma System (COTS) and the Regional Hospital Emergency Preparedness Committee; complies with deliverables to maintain eligibility through the Ohio Hospital Association and Ohio Department of Health.
  • Facilitates quarterly meetings for NA/Tech and Paramedic skill mixes.
  • Monitors the tracking system for mode of arrival accuracy.
  • Attends bi-monthly ED Service meetings to update physicians on EMS patient arrivals and trends identified during Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
  • Facilitates hospital orientation for Tri-Rivers Career Center Public Safety students, including ED, ICU, OB, Pediatrics, Mental Health, and OR; oversees clinical rotation schedules and attends annual Paramedic graduation ceremonies.
  • Attends County Fire Chiefs Association meetings quarterly.
  • Provides Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to individual EMS agencies as requested.
  • Actively participates in county and state EMS organizations; serves as a resource for evaluating current and proposed legislation affecting emergency medical services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, some of which may be essential to the job.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED (Required).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Must be an EMS Instructor (EMS-I) to maintain site-approved license.
  • Maintains clinical and management expertise through continuing education and self-directed practice.

Schedule

Day shift, scheduled for 12 hours per week.
