Responsibilities
- Dispatches emergency calls to closest appropriate unit utilizing the CAD tools to access system status.
- Maintains awareness of developing situations through monitoring various radio frequencies.
- Operates two-way radio and/or other communications equipment to relay calls to other public safety agencies and medical first responders.
- Reads and interprets maps and information from a computer screen to determine locations and provide directions.
- Enters, updates, and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems.
- Relays information and messages to and from emergency sites, to all other individuals or groups requiring notification.
- Scans computer screens and contacts field units to determine units available for dispatch.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate computer-based telephone systems.
- Demonstrates faithfulness in work attendance and punctuality.
- Exhibits sufficient multi-tasking to manage time effectively.
- Provides excellent customer service by remaining calm, polite, and sympathetic.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Certification: Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch within one year of employment
