Employment Specialist - Next Chapter
Position Summary
Employment Specialists at WellPower are responsible for rehabilitation activities supporting people with serious and persistent mental illness who seek work adjustment training, job search and placement, and skill training for community employment, work experiences, part-time or full-time employment. They coordinate employment services, including developing community jobs, collaborating with employers for quality job placement, and working with external agencies to enhance the employment program. They also work with treatment sites to align outcomes for the people they serve.
Responsibilities & Job Duties
- Develop competitive community jobs and skill-building activities to facilitate employment success.
- Conduct consistent vocational assessments to aid people served in job readiness.
- Identify and secure programs and eligibility for the people served to ensure access.
- Work closely with employers to coach people served and implement appropriate interventions.
- Research and develop community contacts to facilitate job placements.
- Coordinate with clinical teams and therapists to align vocational objectives.
- Secure employment for diverse populations with serious and persistent mental illness.
- Engage in public relations and community organizing.
- Develop and manage employment programs.
- Collaborate with treatment sites to establish mutual outcomes for the people served.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Employment Specialist II: Bachelor degree in rehabilitation or related field.
- Employment Specialist III: Master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation or related field; one year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation setting or experience with specific duties of this position is preferred.
Typical Physical & Mental Demands
- Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Repetitive hand/finger motions, manual dexterity.
- Visual and auditory acuity.
- Capacity to handle emotionally charged situations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing patient needs.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
- Regular use of computers and medical equipment.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours.
- Fast-paced and emotionally demanding work environment.
- Noise level is generally moderate but may vary during peak patient flow.
- Occasional travel between clinical sites.
