About the role

The Career Transition and Training Team at Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development (LCEWD) is hiring a Career Transition Counselor/Case Manager to support the Colorado Works Subsidized Training and Employment Program (CW STEP) and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs. This position connects individuals facing significant barriers to employment with paid internship opportunities, career coaching, training, and ongoing support to help them secure sustainable employment and career pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Guides customers in identifying their occupation of choice using career exploration tools and resources.
  • Assesses skill gaps and develops detailed career plans with customers, including skill upgrades or training needs.
  • Assists customers with completing scholarship or internship applications to fund reskilling, upskilling, or training plans; advocates for scholarship approvals.
  • Provides job search support, including resume, cover letter, and interview preparation.
  • Collaborates with community partners to coordinate supports for training, work-based learning, apprenticeships, and job searching.
  • Maintains periodic follow-up with customers to ensure continued employment and provides additional assistance as needed.
  • Applies standard operating procedures for digital tracking, reporting, and maintenance of customer activities and outcomes per LCEWD and CDLE guidelines.

What We're Looking For

  • Skills in coaching, teaching, and/or facilitation to build rapport with customers.
  • Ability to counsel customers in hybrid environments (in-person and virtual).
  • Experience operating a "fast track" service model to move individuals into short-term work-based learning, training, or apprenticeships.
  • Adaptability to varying customer resources, access, and digital literacy levels.
  • Knowledge of career exploration practices, labor market information, and local employment trends.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and conflict resolution skills with customers, coworkers, and partners.
  • Understanding of employment counseling fundamentals, including resume writing, interviewing, and networking.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in a related field or similar duties and responsibilities.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
