Employment Services Recreation Direct Support Professional - Part-Time

About the role

As a member of the Recreation and Family Services Team, you will assist and lead adaptive recreational and social activities for individuals 16 years and older in a program based on individual needs and interests, under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.

Schedule

• Monday: 3pm - 6pm
• Tuesday: 3pm - 6pm
• Wednesday: 3pm - 6pm
• Thursday: 3pm - 6pm
• Friday: 3pm - 6pm
• Saturday and/or Sundays: 9am - 6pm

Pay

Hourly rate of pay: $19.00 - $23.00 based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supporting and supervising individuals' activities in the afternoons, Friday nights, and Saturdays for adults and teens with disabilities.
• Assist with weekly classes in arts and crafts, bowling, dance, games, music, and sports.
• Lead weekly Friday night activities such as Bingo, Dances, Karaoke, Movie Nights, and Cookouts.
• Organize Saturday trips to locations like museums and farms.
• Provide input for new activities and opportunities for special events.
• Complete attendance for all activities.
• Consistently utilize positive behavior supports and ensure all staff do the same.

Transportation Responsibilities

• Transport individuals to recreation activities in the community, businesses, and agency sites.
• Operate and maintain transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and consumer courtesy.
• Practice defensive driving.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Keep assigned vehicles clean and fueled.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, consumer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, and vehicle condition reports.
• Read and interpret maps and driving directions to take the most efficient route and interpret road signs in English.
• Respond immediately to accidents or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers and rendering First Aid and/or CPR until emergency personnel arrive.
• Understand and adhere to Minute Man Arc's Vehicle Safety and Driving Record Evaluations Policy.
• Assist individuals in and out of the vehicle, ensuring all required safety equipment is utilized, including operating ramps, lifts, and securement devices.

Requirements

• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities.
• Experience in the human services field is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to drive large passenger vans or willingness to be trained.
• Maintain required certifications in CPR, first aid, infectious diseases, and other classes (provided).

In programs requiring pre-employment drug testing, identified employees will undergo drug testing for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, and phencyclidines (PCP). These individuals will also be required to undergo testing upon reasonable suspicion of being under the influence and after any accident whenever consumers are on board at the time of the accident. Post-accident testing for alcohol must occur within 8 hours of the accident and drug testing within 32 hours of the accident.
