About the Role

A growing boutique employment law firm in the Greater Boston area is seeking a talented Employment Attorney to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated matters across the full spectrum of employment law — representing both employees and employers — with real ownership over cases and meaningful client contact. The firm values practical judgment, strategic thinking, and attorneys who understand both the law and the business realities behind each matter.

Responsibilities

Litigation

  • Represent employees and employers in state and federal litigation
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Handle discovery and motion practice
  • Prepare cases for trial and appear in court when needed
  • Develop litigation strategies and advocate aggressively for clients

Agreements & Executive Matters

  • Draft and negotiate employment agreements
  • Prepare and negotiate severance and separation agreements
  • Advise executives navigating sophisticated employment transitions
  • Work with matters involving equity compensation, stock options, and vesting
  • Help clients negotiate enhanced severance packages

Counseling

  • Advise employers through difficult personnel decisions
  • Counsel clients regarding discipline, termination, workplace issues, and potential liability
  • Help employers understand their options and navigate risk
  • Counsel employees regarding potential claims, workplace disputes, restrictive covenants, and non-compete issues

Negotiation & Pre-Litigation

  • Draft compelling pre-litigation demand letters
  • Negotiate directly with opposing counsel and employers
  • Help clients reach favorable resolutions before a lawsuit is necessary
  • Strategize about when to negotiate and when to litigate

Requirements

  • J.D. and active Massachusetts Bar admission required
  • Meaningful litigation experience in employment law
  • Deep knowledge of employment agreements and severance agreements
  • Experience advising executives on complex employment issues
  • Comfort counseling employers through sensitive personnel decisions
  • Ability to independently manage sophisticated employment matters
  • Strong advocacy skills for both employee and employer representation
  • Excellent writing and communication abilities
  • Strategic, problem-solving mindset — not just issue-spotting
  • Comfort taking ownership and running with matters
  • Enjoys direct client interaction and building relationships
  • Collaborative, dependable, and team-oriented

Schedule

This is a remote-friendly position with a collaborative office environment in the Greater Boston area. There is no rigid in-office requirement; the firm recognizes that attorneys have different working styles and that some matters are better handled in person while others are not. You will have the flexibility to work remotely and come into the office when it makes sense for you, your clients, and the team.

Benefits

  • Real autonomy and ownership over your cases
  • Meaningful client contact and significant responsibility
  • Opportunity to build your own reputation within the employment law community
  • Support for business development — existing relationships and connections are welcomed
  • Work on both litigation and sophisticated counseling matters
  • Collaborative, small-firm team environment
  • Genuine remote/hybrid flexibility
  • Role designed for growth with the practice, not just managing a caseload
