Employee In Charge (EIC)

About the role

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. is seeking safety‑committed individuals for an Employee in Charge (EIC) position in Dallas, TX. The EIC ensures that work on the railroad right‑of‑way is conducted safely, providing essential on‑track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.

Responsibilities

• Set up derails, track signs, and other on‑track safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report any rule violations.
• Provide job‑site coordination and maintain radio contact with dispatchers and train crews to communicate worksite safety status.
• Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
• Enforce all railroad, state, and federal policies.

Requirements

• Proficiency with tablets, smartphones, and communication tools for coordinating train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to travel for extended periods (sometimes months at a time).
• Valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance‑of‑way department.
• Ability to successfully complete federal, client, and/or company‑specific training.

Pay

Compensation is $28.00 to $37.00 per hour, based on experience.

Schedule

Travel is expected from 50% to 85% of the time; the role operates in a field environment alongside active tracks.
