Employee Benefits Account Manager
About the Role
As an Employee Benefits Account Manager with We Insure Risk, you'll serve as a strategic partner to mid-to-large group clients, helping them navigate the increasingly complex benefits landscape with confidence. This role combines consultative expertise, data-driven recommendations, and proactive service to help clients achieve their benefits and business objectives while strengthening long-term partnerships. You'll manage a diverse book of business, working closely with employers, carriers, vendors, and internal team members to deliver innovative solutions, support compliance requirements, and drive client success. Your expertise in large group and self-funded benefit programs will position you as a trusted advisor and a valuable resource for both clients and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Manage a book of mid-to-large group employee benefits clients, providing proactive service, strategic consultation, and ongoing account management.
- Lead annual renewal processes by gathering census and claims data, evaluating market options, preparing renewal strategies, and negotiating with carriers.
- Analyze claims and financial data for self-funded and alternative funding arrangements, presenting meaningful insights and recommendations to clients.
- Consult with clients on benefit plan design, funding strategies, compliance requirements, and long-term benefits planning.
- Partner with carriers, vendors, general agents, and internal stakeholders to resolve complex service issues and maintain strong client satisfaction.
- Support ERISA compliance by preparing and reviewing plan documents, wrap documents, and Form 5500 filings.
- Identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities that align with client needs and support account growth.
- Mentor junior team members, share industry expertise, and contribute to process improvement initiatives across the organization.
- Maintain accurate client records and activity documentation within CRM systems to ensure exceptional service delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Active resident and non-resident insurance licenses.
- Minimum of five years of experience managing large group employee benefits accounts.
- Two or more years of consultative experience supporting self-funded benefit plans.
- Strong understanding of group insurance products, funding arrangements, renewal methodologies, and employee benefits compliance.
- Experience leading renewals, carrier negotiations, and strategic benefits planning.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and agency management systems.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to interpret claims, utilization, and financial data to support client recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting self-funded, level-funded, and alternative funding arrangements.
- Experience with Salesforce, Zywave, Zendesk, and employee benefits quoting platforms.
- Prior experience mentoring account management or service team members.
- Advanced knowledge of ERISA compliance, plan documentation, and Form 5500 reporting.
- Demonstrated success identifying growth opportunities within an existing book of business.
- Experience serving as a subject matter expert for employee benefits products and services.

Pay
Pay Range: $90,000 USD - $100,000 USD. Any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with applicable state pay transparency laws, considering relevant experience, education, certifications, and seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. Roles may also be eligible for supplemental compensation, such as performance-based bonus, commission, or equity.
