BETA Technologies is dedicated to revolutionizing electric aviation through innovation and sustainability. As an EMI/EMC Technician, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and performance of electric aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Perform electromagnetic compatibility and environmental testing according to DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and other relevant standards
- Set up and configure test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers, antennas, LISNs, current probes, oscilloscopes, and vector network analyzers
- Fabricate and maintain test fixtures, cable harnesses, and interconnect assemblies for EMI/EMC testing
- Operate and maintain semi-anechoic chambers and reverberation chambers
- Document test results meticulously, including photographs, data captures, and detailed test reports
- Troubleshoot test setups and equipment independently, identifying and resolving issues to keep testing on schedule
- Maintain and improve test equipment for both internally developed and externally purchased tools
- Contribute to the development and refinement of EMI/EMC test procedures and processes
- Support design teams with EMI mitigation strategies and troubleshooting investigations
- Ensure a safe, positive, and efficient work environment
- Use all mandated safety equipment and comply with all safety requirements
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Two-year engineering degree or equivalent work experience in EMI/EMC testing or a related technical field
- 1+ years of experience performing EMI/EMC or related electronics testing
- Familiarity with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers, and antennas
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and schematics of electronic components and systems
- Ability to fabricate test fixtures, cable harnesses, or electro-mechanical assemblies
- Passionate about continuous improvement and driven to continually learn, develop, and adapt
- Good team communication skills required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Applications (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience working in a semi-anechoic chamber or shielded room environment
- Experience with reverberation chamber testing
- Python or similar programming/scripting experience for test automation
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience
- Experience with flight hardware or aerospace environmental testing
- Experience working with high-power equipment and high-voltage systems (400V-800V+)
- Knowledge of lab accreditation processes (e.g., A2LA, ISO 17025)
- Aerospace design verification experience, especially compliance test experience
- Experience creating or maintaining EMC test software and automation tools
- Ability to use TILE!, EMC32, ELEKTRA, BAT-EMC, or similar test automation and instrument control software
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs
- Ability to position self for inspection including confined, elevated, and loud noise spaces
- Ability to position self to move and/or transfer materials, equipment, and/or supplies
- Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job, including dexterity in instrument manipulation
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and may involve long portions of time on feet
- Ability to lift 25 lbs unassisted
