About the role

This course examines class distinction and community through the lens of the English country house from 1837 to 1939. Topics include owners, servants, houses, collections, gardens and rituals such as fox hunting. Appointment runs from September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Grading assignments and exams
  • Consulting with supervisor and students
  • Invigilating final exams
  • Other duties as needed in consultation with the instructor

Requirements

  • Master of Arts in History or related field (required)
  • Mastery of the subject area as related to the course description (required)

Qualifications

  • PhD in History (preferred)
  • Demonstrated evidence of superior undergraduate teaching (preferred)
  • Previous experience teaching a similar course (highly desirable)

Pay

$55.25 per hour plus 4% vacation pay (subject to collective agreement)

Schedule

  • Estimated hours per position: approximately 106 hours
  • Lecture: Friday 9:00‑11:00 am (online synchronous)
  • Estimated course enrolment: 100 students
