Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of functions in support and care of patients requiring urgent or emergency care in an urgent care or emergency medical setting.
• Receive direction and assignments from physicians and nurses and provide technical support to optimize patient care.
• Report on the condition of patients to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.
• Cookordinate and assist with care and patient flow by initiating collection of specimens or treatment within the scope of the position as directed.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to enhance patient flow and maintain a high standard of care.
• Mentor and monitor ED Technicians staff at the direction of RN or Provider.
• Aid in resuscitation/CPR and emergency airway procedures.
• Absorb vital signs and place oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
• Aid in other technical functions such as obtaining 12-lead EKGs, discontinuing peripheral IVs, including heparin and saline, performing phlebotomy, collecting, maintaining, and caring for specimens for laboratory analysis and Point of Care Testing.
• Manage ordering and decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Participate in the Emergency Decontamination Team.
• Assist with positioning patients, applying orthopedic splints and dressings. Measure and fit crutches and canes; instruct patients on proper crutch and cane walking.
• Monitor and record temperatures for specimen refrigerators daily. Respond appropriately to out-of-range refrigerator temperatures.
• Provide activities of daily living appropriate to patient's condition, including toileting, hygiene, monitoring intake and output, meal serving, setting up, and feeding patients.
• Provide mobility activities including range of motion exercises, transfers, and ambulation of patients.
• Use proper body mechanics, obtain help and/or use appropriate equipment when lifting, moving, or transferring patients from bed to chair, putting them on stretchers, and assisting them into wheelchairs.
• Establish and maintain good communications with patients, families/visitors, and hospital staff.
• Answer patients' requests for assistance and participate in intentional rounding in a timely fashion.
• Complete all unit-specific and departmental competency requirements, as measured by supervisory review.
• Manage alarm management of cardiac monitors.
• Attend relevant educational and training programs, as evidenced by signature on in-service attendance logs.
• Perform similar or related duties as requested or directed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
• One year of patient care experience, preferred.
• BLS certification within 6 months from date of hire, required.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy Work - Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs, of force constantly to move objects.

Pay Range

USD $17.67/Hr. - USD $26.50/Hr.
