Emergency Room Technician, Comer Emergency Department - Registry, Days

About the Role

University of Chicago Medicine is seeking an Emergency Room Technician for the Comer Emergency Room department at Comer Children's Hospital, a state-of-the-art 172-bed hospital located in Hyde Park. The Comer Emergency Department is a 21-bed, Level 1 Pediatric Academic Trauma Center with 2 trauma bays, 1 special procedures room, and a dedicated resuscitation bay. The department has received the Emergency Nurses Association's Lantern Award for 2024-2027. This is a 100% onsite position requiring candidates to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients throughout the hospital as needed
• Maintain supplies and linen at par levels in assigned areas
• Perform and maintain POC testing and EKG, including QC and transmitting of data
• Assist RNs with patient care as needed and/or requested, within limits of the law and/or policy
• Provide patient sitting for medically/psychologically compromised patients
• Maintain a clean work environment by preparing ED rooms for the next patient when necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• C.N.A with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or M.A. with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or EMT-B or EMT-P
• Current Basic Life Support certification through The American Heart Association
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision
• Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public

Preferred Qualifications

• ED experience highly preferred
• ACLS/PALS certification

Schedule

Registry (0.1 FTE), Days shift from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with every other weekend required. Work location is Hyde Park.
