Job Summary
The Registered Nurse leads the health care team, providing professional nursing care according to established standards, policies, and procedures. The role involves demonstrating leadership, adhering to regulatory requirements, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.
About the Role
This position requires a minimum of six (6) months recent full-time equivalent experience in Emergency Department or Critical Care, or successful completion of a KP ED training program within the last 12 months. The role also demands a Registered Nurse license (California).
Responsibilities
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Serves as a leader of the health care team; delegates tasks appropriately, and demonstrates accountability.
- Understands and supports the scope of practice of team members and escalates issues as necessary.
- Champions new ideas, leads the change process, and mentors, orients, and coaches others.
- Participates in problem identification and resolution, prioritizes, and supervises work assignments.
- Ensures the individualized plan of care is developed and/or contributed to, reflecting assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and functional work environment, and treats all families of patients with courtesy, respect, kindness, and compassion.
- Provides an optimal patient care experience by actively listening to the needs of patients and family members and taking responsibility for meeting those needs.
- Ensures patient safety related to medications and procedures, utilizes the five rights, and prevents patient falls, decubitus ulcers, and nosocomial infections.
- Ensures effective development and completion of discharge plans, including discharge barriers and patient/family education.
- Ensures patient understanding of discharge instructions and medication purposes, side effects, and administration instructions.
- Participates in unit-based teams, attends mandatory meetings, in-services, and staff meetings, actively participates in professional development, and keeps self-informed of unit activities.
- Supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment and adheres to the attendance program.
- Organizes work to minimize overtime use, identifies and assists in systems improvement, and utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources effectively.
Requirements
- Bilingual in Spanish and Mandarin preferred.
- Experience in Emergency Department or Critical Care, or successful completion of a KP ED training program within the last 12 months.
- Registered Nurse license (California).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
Qualifications
No formal education is required for this role. However, the successful candidate should have a basic understanding of the nursing process and be able to apply it in a healthcare setting.

Pay
The posted pay range for this role is $58.29 - $79.98 per hour. Actual base pay will be determined based on labor market data, internal alignment, and the candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
Schedule
The position is full-time and works nights, with a shift starting at 7:00 PM and ending at 7:30 AM. There is also a backup 8-hour shift from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
