About the role

Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the nursing unit/department using the ANPD standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation with the NPD Practice model.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts implementation strategies as needed based on the learner’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language, and cultural preferences.
  • Engages learners in planned educational activities through use of effective facilitation skills.
  • Develops, plans, implements, and coordinates activities related to training of new graduates, experienced nurses, and ancillary staff new to the unit/department based on collection of data that is used systematically and purposefully to ensure relevant and evidence-based learning for each clinician.
  • Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates activities related to clinical practice and lifelong career development.
  • Utilizes clinical problems to promote inquiry/investigation and improvement, follows through with competency assessment of new/changed skills and concepts.
  • Performs needs assessment, gap analysis, environmental scanning and identifies high risk and problem prone related practices.
  • Designs engaging, interactive, state of the art educational activities/plans rooted in adult learning principles; implements and coordinates activities related to clinical practice and lifelong career development.
  • Integrates regulatory standards to meet the requirements for continuing education contact hours, when appropriate.
  • Develops, incorporates, and implements evidence-based plans in collaboration with content experts, representatives of target audiences, and other stakeholders to support interprofessional/team coordination of care across the continuum.
  • Aids in the identification of learning needs, strengths, and opportunities for students and practicing nurses and develops learning activities to grow skill sets based on learning needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational activities.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of word processing, data management, email, and presentation applications.
  • Effective professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the American Nurses Association (ANA)/Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) scope and standards for Nursing Professional Development.
  • Self-directed, creative, and demonstrates initiative to fulfill the seven roles of the NPD practitioner: learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for the NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions.

Skills

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA) for professional specialty served.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Required]
  • Master's of Nursing [Preferred]
  • 2+ years nursing experience [Required]
