About the Project

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States—enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team of contractors engineering and building the facility, as well as managing procurement of about $1 billion in goods and services.

The project is located in the high desert of north-central Nevada, about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada, and 3 hours northeast of Reno. Designed with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Upon completion of the second phase, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium.

About the Role

In this role, you will integrate Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) issues and requirements into planning documents, government documents, design specifications and criteria, construction plans and schedules, and subcontract packages for projects. You will have technical responsibility for interpreting complex requirements, evaluating and applying appropriate ES&H engineering principles, and formulating scopes of work, plans, and methodologies to achieve and maintain compliance with ES&H requirements. You will provide technical assistance to other ES&H professionals and project functions, ensure compliance with all project safety rules, and present emergency response and action protocols for various types of emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist Bechtel contractors in critical activities and safety inspections, using brigade members to identify and evaluate risk situations for people and rescue conditions.
• Participate early in critical activities where the presence of the brigade for hazardous work is required, with approval from Bechtel.
• Coordinate, execute, and evaluate emergency drill exercises for any type of emergency to train personnel in emergency response steps, and generate drill reports to inform Bechtel of findings.
• Review and evaluate the project’s safety requirements to ensure an adequate emergency response, including communications, traffic plans, route maps, meeting points, and evacuation routes.
• Interact with emergency coordinators of each project contractor to link functions between Emergency Response and Evacuation (ERE) teams and the project brigade in each area.
• Support inter-company organization to facilitate and formalize communications of any kind among ES&H teams.

Requirements

• Certification in Emergency Response.
• Volunteer firefighter experience or verifiable experience in Rescue Brigades, Emergency Control, and Coordination with 5 years of verifiable experience.

Pay

Salary range: $105,000 – $160,200 annually, based on market data. Final salary offered is determined by education, experience, and qualifications of the applicant.
