Position Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care within the emergency department supervising all trainees, non-licensed providers, and non-physician credentialed providers in the clinical areas.
- Individualize clinical obligations depending on faculty position assignment.
- Document each patient encounter with a timely, comprehensive note.
- Behave professionally and courteously towards patients, department staff, and members of the hospital community.
- Fulfill billing and coding responsibilities as defined in the scope of practice.
- Abide by department's operational manual, policies, and procedures.
- Abide by hospital rules and regulations, medical staff bylaws, credentialing requirements, and MCVH's policies and procedures.
- Show willingness to fill uncovered shifts in addition to clinical commitment.
Teaching
- Participate in providing core curriculum lectures to medical students, interns, and resident level trainees.
- As appropriate, participate in ACLS, PALS, and ATLS courses.
- Provide bedside clinical teaching to all trainees with the Emergency Department.
- Participate in nursing, housestaff, medical student, advanced practice provider, and paramedical educational programs.
Research
- Actively identify areas of interest and participate in Departmental research projects.
Administrative
- Attend department staff meetings unless on clinical duty.
- Adhere to quality improvement and utilization review activities.
- Participate in and support relevant marketing and public relations activities on behalf of the hospital and Emergency Department.
- Participate in appropriate medical staff and hospital committees as assigned.
- Complete, in a timely manner, all reports and requests for information from the Department Chair, Vice-Chair, and the School of Medicine.
- When required, participate as a representative of the VCU Health System.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine.
- Active Virginia Medical license or ability to obtain.
- Completion of an Emergency Medicine Residency within 3 years (if beyond 3 years of completing an accredited Emergency Medicine Residency program, must have completed 1500 hours of clinical activity in the past 3 years in an Emergency Department of comparable size, volume and patient acuity and can be waived at the discretion of the Chair).
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
