Emergency Medicine Physician (EMS Operations)
Job Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health, in partnership with the Denver Health Paramedic Division, is recruiting a full-time academic Emergency Medicine physician with a focus on EMS operations. This position offers the opportunity to practice within one of the nation's most established and integrated EMS systems.
Essential Functions
Teaching and Training: Instruct students seeking clinical experience at Denver Health and provide education for post graduate medical trainees. (20%)
Deliver Emergency Care to Patients: Stabilize patients in critical condition. Evaluate patients' vital signs & lab data to determine emergency intervention needs and priority of treatment. Conduct primary patient assessments that include information from prior medical care. Analyze records, examination information, or test results to diagnose medical conditions. Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff. Monitor patients' conditions, and reevaluate treatments, as necessary. Select, request, perform, or interpret diagnostic procedures, e.g., lab tests, electrocardiograms, etc.. Select and prescribe medications to address patient needs. (30%)
Develop a Plan of Care for Patients Discuss patients' treatment plans with physicians and other medical professionals. Encourage increased patient understanding and involvement in care. Communicate likely outcomes of medical diseases or traumatic conditions to patients or their representatives. Consult with hospitalists and other professionals, such as social workers, regarding patients' hospital admission, continued observation, transition of care, or discharge. Identify factors that may affect patient management, such as age, gender, barriers to communication, and underlying disease. (30%)
Compliance: Establish and communicate protocols to meet contractual, regulatory and accreditation requirements. (10%)
Staff Management: Oversee the activities of staff which includes but is not limited to sourcing, hiring, and training new team members, creating and managing schedules, evaluating performance, and providing coaching to engage and motivate team members, identifying and applying career advancement opportunities for team members, and helping to resolve employee issues and disputes, mentorship and guidance. (10%)

Doctorate Degree Required
B/C BEMEM Emergency Medicine
B/C BEMEM Emergency Medical Services preferred
Licenses
MD, DO - Physician - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
