Emergency Medicine Physician
About the role
The Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center (ZCCHC) is seeking skilled Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine Physicians to provide direct patient care in various settings. This locum tenens role supports the Indian Health Service (IHS) mission to deliver comprehensive, culturally grounded healthcare to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Physicians will exercise independent clinical judgment, manage a broad range of acute and chronic conditions, and collaborate with the Clinical Director and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, culturally respectful care.
Responsibilities
- Exercise independent clinical judgment in managing a broad range of acute and chronic conditions.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Director and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, culturally respectful care.
- Work independently in the Emergency Department, Urgent Care, inpatient, outpatient, and obstetric settings.
- Float to the Urgent Care to help out during night shifts for Emergency Department coverage.
Requirements
- M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
- Current Medical License to practice medicine in New Mexico.
- Completion of residency training in Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Experience working in an IHS setting preferred.
- Cultural competency and ability to integrate Zuni and Navajo languages and cultural practices into daily life.
Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a background check and obtain necessary credentials.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Schedule
Hours are flexible and adjusted based on clearance. Night EM only works the ED 24/7.
Professional Conduct
Maintain high standards of competence, conduct, appearance, and comply with the Federal Code of Conduct under the supervision of the Clinical Director.
Orientation & Onboarding
Orientation is scheduled individually, based on provider start date. Onboarding timeline is 6-8 weeks, beginning once security clearance paperwork is received. Includes background checks, credentialing, and orientation.
Start Dates
Schedule is flexible and adjusted based on clearance.

Onsite housing is NOT Recommended. Nearby housing locations: Zuni Ramah, Gallup.
