Emergency Medicine NP/PA-Ruidoso, NM (PRN)

About the Role

Provides quality healthcare in collaboration with other health care providers in the emergency department (ED).

Responsibilities

• Performs entire patient care continuum for urgent care and acute patients presenting to the Emergency Department, including:
  • Initial assessments
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostics
  • Applying treatment algorithms (e.g., abscess treatment, laceration repair, fracture stabilization and splinting)
  • Arranging appropriate disposition, including admissions, for patients from newborn to geriatric
• Utilizes available physician resources appropriately and demonstrates high confidence in treating patients.
• Seeks opportunities to grow skillset with the goal of improving autonomy.
• Provides primary patient care, including:
  • Reviewing lab/x-ray reports
  • Managing medication refills
  • Patient referrals
  • Patient education
  • Health maintenance and symptom management for acute and chronic diseases (newborn to geriatric)
• Serves as an educator for staff RNs, LPNs, and student FNPs/PAs as needed.
• Participates in management, administrative, and organizational roles, including:
  • Attending meetings and maintaining schedules
  • Joining monthly committees to improve patient care
  • Assisting in screening/evaluation of prospective employees, staffing, and management
• Assists in developing policies and procedures for clinical areas, conforming to JCAHO, regulatory agencies, and PHS/EH standards.
• Participates in data collection and quality management activities.
• Engages in Midlevel Education Committee trainings for ongoing skill maintenance and improvement.
• Uses available data to drive ongoing professional practice improvement.
• Receives and assimilates feedback from all levels of staff/providers (coachable).
• Actively participates in piloting improvement projects, organizational initiatives, team-building exercises, section meetings, and semi-annual provider reviews.
• Maintains patient medical records as required by hospital and regulatory agencies, seeking opportunities to increase accuracy and pertinent information capture.
• Assimilates feedback related to documentation and coding for appropriate billing capture.
• Participates in once-monthly call shifts.
• Performs other functions as required.

Requirements

For Nurse Practitioner:

• Master’s degree in Nursing
• New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license
• Federal and state DEA license
• ANCC certification
• Minimum of one year of experience
• Experience as an ER Nurse preferred

For Physician Assistant:

• Baccalaureate-prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two years of working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant
• Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners
• Minimum of one year of experience
• Prior experience as an EMT or Scribe in an ER preferred
