Imagine being part of a cohesive team of 11 passionate emergency physicians, collectively managing approximately 17,000 patient visits per year. As the regional Trauma and ICU Referral Centre, we handle complex cases that will test and expand your skills and expertise. Our patient demographic is diverse, covering pediatrics to geriatrics, mental health, trauma, and various medical and surgical scenarios, ensuring a rich and fulfilling patient care experience.

We are equipped with state-of-the-art onsite medical imaging facilities, including CT and MRI, providing you with the tools and support necessary to excel in emergency medicine. Collaborating with an incredible team of allied health professionals—from mental health and substance use nurses to physiotherapists and round-the-clock respiratory therapists—you’re well-supported to deliver exemplary care.

We are deeply involved in facility-wide initiatives, with dedicated funding for meaningful quality improvement projects, allowing you to play a key role in enhancing patient outcomes. As a hub for medical education, we offer numerous opportunities for learning, mentorship, and innovation. With a steadfast commitment to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents across the region, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) guarantees personalized and comprehensive care for each member of our community. Our capabilities extend from providing round-the-clock emergency and trauma care to specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. This breadth of services means we’re equipped to handle the most critical demands with precision and compassion, ensuring no need goes unmet.

Transitioning from emergency to specialized care, the expertise of our dedicated specialists encompasses areas like ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. Their knowledge and skills are pivotal, making them the cornerstone of our healthcare services and patient outcomes.

Central to our mission is the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART), which highlights our role as the regional hub, offering expert care to critically ill and injured patients. This underscores our position as the key healthcare facility in the region, ready and equipped to tackle high-acuity cases with skill and care.

Benefits and incentives

• Guaranteed income of $366,046 to $403,668 per 1.0 FTE (depending on qualifications) through an APP clinical service contract, prorated for part-time positions
• No physician overhead
• Flexible scheduling with ample vacation leave
• Eligibility for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
  • Retention Premium 11.48%
  • Retention Flat Fee $17,421
• Relocation funding:
  • $9,000 if moving within BC
  • $12,000 within Canada
  • $15,000 from outside Canada
• Recruitment Incentive $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time
• Other benefits/incentives:
  • With RCME, eligible to receive $440 for up to 2 years in Trail, $2,640 during the 3rd and 4th year, and $4,840 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds
  • Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer
