About the role

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Instructor will provide instruction in basic out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients. This is a non-exempt Service Contract Act (SCA) position located in Petaluma, CA, reporting to the Site Lead.

Hourly Base Rate: $32.65/hr to $34.92/hr. This position qualifies for a Signing Bonus and a Health & Welfare stipend of $4.98/hr as outlined in the Wage Determination for this location.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction on electrical systems and electrical systems theory across an array of subject matter including both shipboard and shore-based systems.
  • Manage classroom quality, student performance, and time effectively.
  • Achieve client-established quality objectives for instruction and classroom management.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism in training activities and classroom environments.
  • Adhere to a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate language.
  • Manage class schedules in accordance with course curriculum outlines.
  • Ensure a safe, comfortable training environment with sufficient materials and resolve disruptive student behavior.
  • Accomplish a rating of satisfactory or above on 80% of course evaluations following each course convening.
  • Follow guidance in instructional materials 100% of the time.
  • Achieve a rating of "demonstrated competency" or better on the Coast Guard Instructor Feedback Form annually.
  • Receive no measure less than "3" on a scale of "5" for each of the 14 assigned instructor competencies.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork with all Government and Contract team members.
  • Deliver tasks and work products in conformance with USCG Training System Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring they are timely, complete, and free from technical or typographical errors 90% of the time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR and National Registry EMT certification.
  • 5 years of field experience as a practicing EMT or paramedic.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training.

Qualifications (Desired)

  • Bachelor's degree in Allied Health or educational practices.
  • National Registry Advanced EMT or Paramedic certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) certifications.
  • CG PERJC (Coast Guard Instructor) certification.
  • Work experience aboard a variety of afloat and shore units.

Skills

  • Maintain focus and awareness throughout scheduled working hours.
  • Perform tasks requiring prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk, utilizing a computer, mouse, and keyboard.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds as needed.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong command of the English language.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Quickly learn and retain routine tasks and processes.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, business correspondence proficiency, and self-management capabilities.
  • Perform the essential functions of the role satisfactorily; reasonable accommodation will be provided for employees with disabilities upon request.
  • Accept and adapt to additional responsibilities or changes to assigned duties as determined by DirectViz Solutions (DVS).
