About the role

The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority is seeking candidates for its Fall 2026 EMT Academy. This immersive, hands-on training program provides full EMT certification and field experience, all while participants are paid as KCEAA employees.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time program held Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Immersive classroom instruction, clinical rotations, and field ride time with experienced providers and educators.
  • Upon successful completion, eligible to take the National Registry EMT Examination.
  • Transition directly into full-time EMT roles with KCEAA after certification.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Pass background check and drug screening
  • Passionate about public service and helping others
  • Strong work ethic, teamwork, and integrity
  • Ability to handle pressure, remain calm, and make quick decisions
  • Willingness to learn and grow with KCEAA!

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work any assigned shift or position following certification as an EMT
  • Available for work on any shift as requested by KCEAA
  • May require work beyond the scheduled shift as requested and/or until properly relieved or released
  • Exposure to adverse weather, holidays, and short notice
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat, blood, saliva, and body substances, irrational, combative patients, and bystanders
  • Work in noisy environments
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 300 pounds independently
  • Stand, walk, sit, operate equipment with tools and controls, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Maintain finger dexterity, manual dexterity, and multilimbed coordination

Benefits

Continued employment with KCEAA is contingent upon obtaining National Registry EMT certification.

Pay

$15.00 - $19.98 per hour

Schedule

Full-time program held Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
