About the role

Provides stand-by emergency medical care and transportation at special event venues, responds to emergency scenes, and provides non-emergency medical care and transportation to hospitals, nursing homes, and other locations. Delivers medical care and monitoring at the scene, en route to the hospital, and during transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge, understanding, and compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures ambulance and equipment are ready for use at the start of each shift and after every call.
  • Maintains security of buildings, vehicles, equipment, medications, and all other company property.
  • Performs daily inspections of living quarters for cleanliness and completes appropriate housekeeping duties.
  • Maintains appropriate communications with company dispatch, medical control, and other agencies.
  • Knowledgeable about local geography including hospitals, public venues, and street systems.
  • Responds to emergencies and non-emergencies with appropriate care and caution.
  • Provides emergency and non-emergency medical care and transportation according to local medical protocols and state law.
  • Delivers patients to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Acts in the best interests of patient care and the company's reputation.
  • Completes and signs all appropriate documentation for every response and transport.
  • Obtains complete medical histories and billing information for all patients treated and/or transported.
  • Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information.
  • Adheres to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation and follows Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a team leader in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Participates in public relations and community education programs.
  • Accepts responsibility for recertification and other required licenses and certifications.
  • Reports to assigned shifts on time, properly groomed, and in uniform.
  • Sets an example of professionalism and leadership.
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • High degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
  • Currently licensed, certified, or registered by the appropriate state agencies.
  • Currently certified in CPR by the AHA or another appropriate organization.
  • Currently certified in ACLS, PALS, and/or other specialty certifications as required.
  • Currently licensed with the appropriate level of state motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Clean driving record as approved by company vehicle liability insurer.
  • Effective with minimal supervision, able to work efficiently and interact constructively with others.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with patients, customers, clients, family members, bystanders, and the general public.
  • Consistent with the provision of high-quality patient care.
  • Able to perform effectively as a team leader and team member.
  • Able to perform effectively in public relations and community education functions.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to reach, push, and pull.
  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, squat, and kneel for long periods of time.
  • The ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
  • The ability to lift and maneuver 150 pounds without difficulty.
  • The ability to lift and maneuver 150 pounds up and down two flights of stairs without difficulty.
  • The ability to walk a distance of one quarter of a mile without difficulty.
  • The ability to perform all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night.
