Description

Provides stand-by emergency medical care and transportation at special event venues. Responds to emergency scenes to provide emergency medical care and transportation. Responds to hospitals, nursing homes and other locations to provide non-emergency medical care and transportation. Provides medical care and monitoring at the scene, en route to the hospital and during transportation to, from and/or between facilities. Provides appropriate medical care and monitoring per local medical protocol and state law, adhering to company, local, regional, and state guidelines regarding patient care and delivers the patient to the appropriate medical facility.

Demonstrated Knowledge and Compliance

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge, understanding and compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that ambulance and all equipment is ready for use at the beginning of each shift and after every call. This includes: appropriate cleaning and disinfecting of the interior and exterior of the vehicle; appropriate cleaning and disinfecting of equipment; inspecting; restocking, and completing daily checklists of the vehicle and equipment; and performing some routine maintenance.
  • Maintains appropriate communications with company dispatch, medical control and other agencies via radio, data link, pager or cell phone as required.

Security and Housekeeping

  • Ensures security of buildings, vehicles, equipment, medications and all other company property.
  • Performs daily inspections of their base and/or station for cleanliness. Then performs the appropriate housekeeping duties to ensure their living quarters are clean, free from clutter and sanitary at all times.

Emergency and Non-Emergency Care

  • Responds to emergencies and non-emergencies using appropriate care and caution in accordance with state law, EMS regulations, company policy, and the principles of safe emergency vehicle operation.
  • Renders emergency and non-emergency medical care and transportation in accordance with local medical protocol and state law, adhering to company, local, regional, and state guidelines regarding patient care consistent with good judgment and the provision of high quality medical care.
  • Appropriately and safely delivers the patient to the appropriate medical facility.
  • Completes and signs all appropriate documentation for every response and transport.
  • Obtains complete medical histories and billing information for all patients treated and/or transported.

Privacy and Infection Control

  • Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information at all times in accordance HIPPA and all other local, state and federal regulations.
  • Adheres to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation when dealing with patient contacts.
  • Is familiar with and practices the Infection Control policies and procedures of company.

Team Leadership and Public Relations

  • Acts as a team leader in dealing with emergency and non-emergency situations, directing and supervising other members of the emergency medical care team.
  • Accepts responsibility for recertification as an EMT and for other required licenses and certifications as required by company, local, regional, and state policies, regulations or laws.
  • Performs duties related to public relations and community education programs sponsored by company.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to reach, push and pull.
  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, squat and kneel for long periods of time.
  • The ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
  • The ability to lift and maneuver 150 pounds without difficulty.
  • The ability to lift and maneuver 150 pounds up and down two flights of stairs without difficulty.
  • The ability to walk a distance of one quarter of a mile without difficulty.
