About the role

The Emergency Department Technician functions as a member of the emergency department patient care team, under supervision of the registered nurse. The Emergency Department Technician I performs basic patient care procedures to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients, including, but not limited to:

  • Taking vital signs
  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living
  • Specimen collection
  • Performing ECGs
  • Post-mold application
  • Crutch-walk teaching
  • Spinal immobilization
  • Basic wound care
  • Observation of patients for physical/emotional changes

Other duties include recording pertinent information in patient charts and communicating with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • American Heart Association BLS for healthcare provider CPR certification
  • Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Work, OR EMT-B License in the State of Illinois

Qualifications

  • Six or more months of experience in a clinical healthcare environment (preferred)
  • Able to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and via computer messaging (preferred)
  • Six or more months of experience supporting physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of patients (preferred)

Pay

Expected pay for this position is $18.98 - $22.34/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity. Weekend shift differential: $1.75/hour.

Schedule

This is an hourly position.
