Overview
The Emergency Department Technician provides essential clinical and clerical support under the supervision of Registered Nurses and physicians. This role supports patient care through non-invasive clinical tasks, patient monitoring, transport, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient care environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with RNs and the interdisciplinary care team to support individualized plans of care and optimize patient outcomes
- Accurately obtain, monitor, and document vital signs and clinical data in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Deliver non-invasive clinical and clerical support within the Emergency Department under RN and physician direction
- Perform EKGs, assist with patient transport, and support activities of daily living while ensuring patient comfort and dignity
- Prepare, maintain, and ensure proper functioning of clinical equipment and treatment areas
- Maintain precise, timely documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with regulatory standards
- Promote a safe, clean, and compliant care environment following infection prevention and safety protocols
- Effective clinical communication and strong interdisciplinary teamwork
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with sound judgment
- High attention to detail with strong clinical documentation practices
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and service excellence
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: At least one year of clinical experience - Preferred
- Licenses/Certifications: Required (Upon Hire or Preferred): Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) (preferred upon hire; required within 30 days)
- Within 90 Days of Hire: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification, Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training, Mandatory Reporter Training (as applicable to state of practice): Child Abuse Reporting (IA and/or IL), Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting (IA and/or IL)
