Emergency Department Paramedic (Full Time)

Join the clinical team in the Emergency Department (ED) at Androscoggin Valley Hospital (AVH) as a Paramedic, delivering quality care to patients. You may also accompany EMS services on transfers to other facilities based on patient acuity. Follow state and WMC care protocols while reporting to the Emergency Department Manager and Director.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Paramedic Program.
  • NRP Certification (must be obtained within one year of employment).
  • MOAB certification (required within one year).
  • Current licensure as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Care Provider in the State of New Hampshire.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications (required prior to employment).
  • Critical care course completion (required within two years of employment).
  • BLS or Heartsaver CPR AED certification (renewed regularly with up to a three-month grace period).
  • Two years of experience as a Paramedic.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict management, and time management skills.
  • Basic computer systems knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate clinical competence and excellence in practice as outlined in the skills competency tool.
  • Accept responsibility and accountability for clinical practice in the ED and during transports under NH EMS Protocols.
  • Identify and report Risk Management situations, completing Occurrence Reports with full documentation.
  • Recommend new products or cost-reduction strategies to the EMS Coordinator and Department Manager.
  • Assess EMS and ED patients immediately upon arrival, including triage using the ESI model.
  • Accurately interpret rhythm strips and review test results (e.g., EKGs, lab, X-ray) to report findings to the ED physician.
  • Coordinate and implement the interdisciplinary plan of care in collaboration with the ED team.
  • Administer medications according to state and hospital formulary/policy, monitoring for effects and documenting findings.
  • Assist physicians and providers in treatments and procedures (e.g., suturing, splinting).
  • Update treatment plans in collaboration with the pre-hospital/ED team, patient, and family.
  • Triage patients appropriately and initiate orders per protocol and policy.
  • Input physician orders into the Order Management system and carry out waived testing as needed.
  • Document all pertinent information accurately and legibly on pre-hospital PCRs or medical records.
  • Transport patients between departments while monitoring and continuing essential services (e.g., oxygen, IV therapy).
  • Provide compassionate care, addressing patients' physical and emotional concerns.
  • Accompany patients on paramedic-level transfers, ensuring completion of NH Transfer forms and physician orders.
  • Follow infection control practices and precautions as outlined in hospital policies.
  • Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response Team calls, and perform IV starts in any department as requested.
  • Adhere to Medication Safety policies, including bar-coding medications and patient ID bands, with barcode overrides ≤3% of the time.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to facility values and standards of excellence.

All new hires are required to attend a mandatory three-day orientation at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH, with travel reimbursement available for those not based at Weeks.
