About the role
The Emergency Communications Operator plays a critical role in the City of Little Rock's Police Department-911 Communications Call Center. This position involves receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, medical, and other public safety services. Essential functions include gathering essential information, determining the nature and priority of the call, and dispatching appropriate response units.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, medical, and other public safety services.
- Gather essential information, determine the nature and priority of the call, and dispatch appropriate response units in compliance with all applicable guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Work outside of regular business hours to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Participate in random drug and alcohol screenings.
Requirements
- Must possess Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Level 1-Basic Terminal Operator and Level 2-Advanced Operator certifications within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this position.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) certification programs within established departmental timelines and maintain certifications throughout employment in this position.
- Maintain performance standards established by departmental policies and accreditation requirements.
- Comply with all accreditation standards, departmental policies, and operational procedures and participate in accreditation-related activities as required.
- Available to work outside of regular business hours to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Prior to any exposure to criminal justice information must obtain CJIS security and privacy certification and maintain the certification for the duration of employment in this position.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school and one (1) year of clerical and customer service experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently.
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols.
- Basic computer skills.
