Role Description Job Title Technical Engineer Archives Job Summary The Technical Engineer News Archives is part of a missioncritical technology team responsible for the support and innovation of CBS News Production and Archives environments In this role The Engineer will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the workflows and infrastructure necessary to capture and preserve highquality digital copies of archival tapes This client facing role requires strong problemsolving skills technical expertise and excellent communication abilities Key Responsibilities Act as frontline technical support providing troubleshooting and technical diagnosis for robotic tape systems ingestcapture servers QC and transcode platformsConfigure and maintain tape digitization equipment including servers decks and software to ensure optimal performance and efficiencyTroubleshoot technical issues related to tape digitization including errors data corruption and equipment malfunctionsPerform preventative maintenance for software and hardware ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtimeCollaborate with internal teams including IT Engineering Maintenance and Operations to resolve issuesLiaise with external vendors for technical support remote sessions processing RMAs and resolving technical issuesPerform regular quality control checks on digitized files to ensure they meet the required standards for archival preservation and accessibilityCommunicate effectively with clients provide guidance and updates on issue resolution and ensure client satisfactionDocument all technical issues and resolutions in a clear and concise manner Requirements Two years of experience in a technical support roleProven ability to support video digitization encoding and transcoding platformsExperience with hardware integration and troubleshooting components such as VTRs encoders and SDI streamsProficiency in Windows Server and OSKnowledge of audiovideo codecs and formatsFamiliarity with MAMPAM systems and metadata managementFoundational knowledge of enterprise infrastructure including routers firewalls TCPIP and DNSExperience with project management documentation and ticketing systems such as Service Now Asana Jira or ConfluenceExperience with cloudbased storage and processing platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plusFamiliarity with database management systems such as PostgreSQL or MS SQL is a plus Other Details Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, performance and internal equity.
