EMC Laboratory Technician - 2nd shift

Full-time, onsite role in Research Triangle Park, NC. Schedule: 2nd shift (2:00pm - 10:00pm EST or 4:00pm - 12:00am EST). Training is conducted on 1st shift (6:00am - 2:00pm EST) and may last 6 months to a year before transitioning to 2nd shift.

About the role

Test the ability of electronic equipment and systems to function properly in their shared environment without causing or suffering from unacceptable electromagnetic interference.

Responsibilities

• Set up and perform equipment and test setups for clients.
• Build and/or adapt setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
• Examine test samples and read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, measuring instruments, and operational instructions.
• Follow basically defined test plans and datasheets.
• Evaluate test performance and sample operation to properly assess test results.
• Record and explain test results, completing test reports.
• Build and/or adapt setup and test equipment to new situations based on data sheets and instructions from engineering personnel.
• Direct staff in test setups as needed.
• Examine less complex customer samples and learn to operate appropriate tests with necessary supervision/support.
• Communicate with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
• Operate designated machines and special laboratory equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
• Perform basic calibration of test equipment.
• Read and understand specific test standards and testing technology for scope of responsibility with necessary supervision/support.
• Initiate recommendations for new equipment designs and suggest solutions to observed test problems.
• Receive instructions from and report data to engineers and engineering management.
• Communicate with clients during test setups to discuss test methods and/or results.
• Operate with minimal supervision within defined limits of responsibility.
• Record observed or calculated data on appropriate forms and prepare data sheets and test reports.
• Plan tests, evaluate test results, and report opinions and interpretations, as directed.
• Integrate basic continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
• Communicate with management and technical staff to provide suggestions for new equipment, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies.

Requirements

• 2-year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of electrical principles and concepts.
• Previous hands-on experience with electrical equipment, testing, or troubleshooting is a plus.
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
• Proven ability to be innovative and creative.
• Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.

• Full-time, onsite role requiring 5 days a week.
• Regular shift: 2:00pm - 10:00pm EST or 4:00pm - 12:00am EST.
• Training shift: 6:00am - 2:00pm EST (duration: 6 months to a year).
