About the role
In this full-time role at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area, you will be responsible for leading a small certification test or working as part of a team to complete Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Certifications for a more complex integrated product/system under supervision of management or mentor. The Operations team is responsible for partnering with cross functional engineering teams to achieve EMC and radio transmitter certifications.
Essential Functions
- Lead a small certification test or work as part of a team to develop/write test plans that will result in test data that will be used to show EMC compliance to respective requirements
- Demonstrate solid understanding of the Garmin products/systems including I/O, system architecture and equipment functionality
- Develop/write test reports that correctly/completely captures test results and includes information required to ensure the report demonstrates compliance with EMC requirements
- Provide guidance to technicians as required and serve as a mentor to less experienced EMC Engineers (EMC Engineer 1)
- Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion and participate in recruiting activities as required
- Work with experienced EMC Engineers to deliver best-in-class GPS navigation, HD traffic, wireless video, radar and driving recorder platforms as well as connected services using technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi
- Create and implement complex test plans for major product development programs
- Test prototypes for RF emissions and properly document test results
- Communicate risks and deliverables to project teams as well as suggest alternate plans and solutions to mitigate risks
- Partner with experienced EMC Engineers and/or the Compliance Engineering team to determine general approach and specific solutions to compliance problems
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or another related engineering discipline AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Demonstrates basic knowledge and/or understanding of RF technology and electrical circuits
- Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel
- Demonstrated skills and/or training in project management
- Must be detail/team oriented, positive, have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision, able to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
- iNARTE certification in EMC and/or Product Safety
- Past participation on a standards-writing committee
- Experience reviewing EMC and safety design aspects for circuit design and PCB layout
- Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
- Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO17025, AS9100, IATF6949
