About the role
The Embedded Systems Vulnerability Division (ESVD) within the Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Laboratory (CIPHER) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking Co-Op students to support teams performing embedded system cybersecurity testing.
Responsibilities
- Support teams in analyzing large problems and breaking them down into smaller, achievable tasks.
- Create high-level block diagrams and custom scripts to support testing.
- Solve problems from first principles, often involving embedded systems development, hardware reverse engineering (RE), firmware RE, software RE, and signals analysis.
- Work independently and alongside other students on various projects.
- Strong written communication skills are essential.
- Experience with capture the flag events, firmware/software reverse engineering with Ghidra or IDA, or software-defined radios is preferred.
Requirements
- Co-op Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms.
- Able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to research contracts with the U.S. federal government.
- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
Skills
- Strong written communication skills.
- Experience with capture the flag events.
- Experience with firmware/software reverse engineering with Ghidra or IDA.
- Experience with software-defined radios.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Full-time work at GTRI for 40 hours per week, alternating with semesters of full-time school.
