Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer
About the role
Radiance Technologies, a rapidly growing employee-owned company, is seeking an Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer to join our Microelectronics Technology Operation (MTO). MTO develops and analyzes protective technology capabilities and products, advancing the state-of-the-art for the Department of War in areas such as secure microelectronics packaging, board-level electronics development, and system-level security for weapons systems.
The ideal candidate will work across all design and development stages—from ideation to formal production acceptance testing—for electronics subsystems utilizing embedded commercial processors, SoCs, GPUs, FPGAs, and ASICs. This role requires versatility in both embedded software and Hardware Description Languages (HDL) development, collaboration with hardware design engineers to turn up custom embedded hardware prototypes, and maturing prototypes into deployable solutions. Must thrive in small, fast-paced, mission-driven teams. Multiple levels of seniority will be considered based on qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Develop embedded software and firmware for electronics subsystems using commercial processors, SoCs, GPUs, FPGAs, and ASICs.
- Collaborate with hardware design engineers to prototype, test, and mature custom embedded hardware solutions.
- Work across all stages of development, from ideation to production acceptance testing.
- Debug and emulate embedded systems in real-time OS, embedded Linux, and/or bare-metal environments.
- Read schematics and develop advanced C programming for embedded applications.
- Design, simulate, synthesize, and test IP for ASIC and FPGA projects (VHDL/Verilog).
- Provide technical documentation, reports, and guidance to customers and team members.
- Mentor junior technical personnel and contribute to software development plans.
